Job Description

Express Employment Professionals is hiring Recycling Sorters / General Laborers for a busy recycling and paper processing facility located in Staten Island, NY.

We are seeking hardworking, dependable individuals who are comfortable performing physically demanding work in a dirty, dusty, and fast-paced industrial environment.

IMPORTANT: This is a hands-on, dirty job. Employees will be working directly with garbage, waste materials, and recyclable products, sorting through materials to separate recyclable items from trash and other unwanted debris.

This is NOT a traditional warehouse picking and packing position. Candidates must be comfortable getting dirty and working around unpleasant odors, dust, and waste materials throughout their shifts.

Key Responsibilities

• Manually sort through garbage, paper, cardboard, and mixed recyclable materials.
• Separate recyclable materials from trash, contaminants, and other unwanted items.
• Work along recycling conveyor belts and sorting lines to identify and remove materials.
• Inspect materials and separate items according to facility sorting requirements.
• Remove unwanted debris and contaminants from recyclable material streams.
• Maintain a steady work pace to keep up with production demands.
• Assist with general cleanup and housekeeping throughout the recycling facility.
• Follow all safety procedures when working around industrial machinery and conveyor systems.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform additional general labor duties as assigned by supervisors.

Job Requirements

• Previous experience in recycling, sanitation, waste management, manufacturing, warehouse work, or general labor is preferred but not required.
• Must be comfortable working directly with garbage, waste, and dirty recyclable materials.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks.
• Comfortable working in dusty, noisy environments with potentially strong or unpleasant odors.
• Ability to bend, reach, lift, and perform continuous physical movements throughout the shift.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team.
• Ability to follow workplace safety procedures and supervisor instructions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

This position takes place inside an active recycling and paper processing facility.

Candidates should expect:

• Dirty, dusty, and potentially unpleasant working conditions.
• Direct contact with garbage, discarded materials, and recyclable waste.
• Strong odors associated with waste and recycling operations.
• Physically demanding, repetitive work.
• Standing for long periods while sorting materials.
• Working around conveyor belts, machinery, and industrial equipment.
• Wearing appropriate protective equipment throughout the shift.
