Utility Line LocatorUnder general supervision, the Utility Line Locator identifies and marks the location of water, wastewater, storm sewer, traffic lines and fiber lines to prevent damage and service interruptions during construction.Principal Duties And ResponsibilitiesLocate City taps, water and wastewater lines, traffic lines, storm sewer lines and fiber optic cables as requested.Assists contractor by identifying unknown lines at work sites.Locates and marks, fiber, water and sewer services for both Public Works and other City departments and contractors; locates and operates water valves, wastewater, storm, traffic conduits and other City owned facilities.Repairs leaks on service lines and water meters; and conducts pressure and water flow tests; replaces and installs new water meters as needed.Maintains warehouse supply inventory.Addresses and responds to complaints and concerns from citizens.Performs on-call duties as assigned.Performs related duties as required or assigned.Physical And Environmental ConditionsWork is performed throughout the City and requires exposure to hazardous chemicals, inclement weather conditions, wastewater, and potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery. May be required to climb ladders, dig and work in trenches, and lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.Required QualificationsEducation, Training, and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or GED equivalent AND six (6) months of previous public works utility experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of: Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures. Tools, methods, materials, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater systems. Work safety policies, procedures, and practices. Local geography and street names. Line locating and marking practices and procedures. Skill in: Operating basic maintenance tools and equipment. Completing accurate mathematic calculations. Following written and verbal instructions. Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines. Following safe work practices including the proper use of personal protective equipment. Reading and accurately interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, grid books, and instructions. Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. License and Certification Requirements Must possess a Class D Water license within one year of employment.
